Gear review - Camping-dish washing

Camping dish washing Globetrotter   Micro Fiber Towel   45x90cm   65g   Ř5,5x13cm   Euro 12.95

I always used paper kitchen towels for dish washing on the road, but on longer trips one can't really take a whole roll or even more, it's just too big. The I got the idea of using a micro fiber towel. I bought a small, fast drying micro fiber towel, and cut it into two parts (1/4-3/4).

I now use the two parts as dishwashing towel and as dish drying towel, works perfectly. They can be washed, and dry quite quickly. In addition I have a small scotchbrite pad, in case something burns in the pots. Everything fits into the little bag, which came with the micro fiber towel, and then it fits into my metal cup, another empty space filled.

Conclusion: I am very satisfied with this solution, It certainly is not the cheapest solution, but one can use it for many years.

A similar micro fiber towel is also available at Amazon.com.

Dish Washing Liquid   60ml   70g   5x3x11cm   $ 0.95

In Germany it is very hard, if at all possible, to find a mini bottle of dish washing liquid. Therefore I filled dish washing liquid into small shampoo bottles from hotels, a small wide neck bottle would of course work too. Then at some point in the USA I found a mini bottle of dish washing liquid, and bought it, but it is ot better or worse than the other solutions.

Conclusion: Taking a large bottle of dish washing liquid doesn't make sense, especially since one needs only a few drops each time. So, just fill a some dishwashing liquid into some kind of small bottle. The only criteria should be that the bottle closes tightly, and stays closed through vibrations and bumps, and it should be unbreakable.

REI   Kitchen Sink   5 liter   Ř11x4cm   ?g   $ 19.95

We decided that we wanted to start to really wash dishes instead of just kind of washing them. For that we needed some kind of kitchen sink. Then at some point we saw this one at REI and gave it a try.

Conclusion: The foldable kitchen sink is handy, especially on a 1+ weeks trip. It can also be used as a cooler or to get water from a creek. It isn't all that easy to get it back into the package, but with some patience and practice it is possible.

A similar Kitchen Sink,5-Liters is available at Amazon.com.

REI   Folding Bucket   10 liter   10x10x3cm   ?g   $ 29.95

We bought fast drying underwear to reduce luggage, but then we needed something to wash them in and we didn't want to use our kitchen sink to wash underwear. We went to REI to buy another one of the above sinks, but then went with the bigger folding bucket.

Conclusion: The foldable bucket is handy, especially on a 1+ weeks trip. It can also be used to get water from a creek. It isn't all that easy to get it back into the package, but with some patience and practice it is possible.

A similar Folding Bucket (10 Liter) is available at Amazon.com.
