Topographic Motorcycle Helmet 2026
I bought this helmet in spring of
2026, because after 10 years it was time again for a
new helmet. I was very pleased with the previous
helmet (see below) but decided for the first time to
go with a modular adventure style helmet, something I
had wanted to try for a long time. |

The selection of Hi-Viz
helmets is getting very small, from any manufacturer.
Since I wanted to try an Adventure helmet and this
Scorpion also had the ECE 22.06 certification, which I
insist on, this was one of the very few helmets that I had
to choose from. I liked the topographic print and the
helmet was in my price range, so I decided to give it a
go. I hate ordering online without being able to try it
on, therefore I went to the local Cyclegear store. They
didn't have this particular helmet in the store, but they
had the same style that I could try on. Good thing I did,
because the L was too small and I then ordered a XL in the
store to be delivered to my home. This helmet is prepared for their proprietary communication system, which makes it a little harder to mount my Cardo, but I managed to get it installed anyway by using the sticky pad from Cardo. I don't like to use the sticky pad, but we'll see how it holds up. The cutouts for the speakers could have been a little deeper for the Cardo HD speakers but it works without being uncomforatbel. In general modular helmets are louder than others and this one is no exception to this rule, even though it is less noisy than the AGV was.. Conclusion: When I replace this
helmet I'll likely go with a modular one again, but
maybe not AGV, depends on if I can find a simple closing
mechanism on a different brand.

Numo EVO Motorcycle Helmet 2016
I bought this helmet in 2016, because after 10 years it was time for a new helmet (it is always said that one should get a new one every 6 years). I was very pleased with the previous helmet (see below) but decided to go with a modular helmet this time, something I had wanted to try for a long time. The main reason why I decide on this manufacturer is the locking mechanism. I hate to try to fiddle with a double D-ring or similar and apparently only European manufacturers have helmets with other closing devices. On a trip with sightseeing I probably put the helmet on and off 100 times a day. If the locking mechanism is too complicated then one is tempted to not lock it at all, but a not locked helmet doesn't provide any protection as it will just come off the head in an accident.For riding dirt and gravel roads this helmet is only partially recommendable, as the dust will make all machanisms stiff and hard to operate. It's also hard to clean out the dust from these mechanisms. After less than a year I was unable to operate the sun visor and could never get it to work properly again. Moving it in and out left scratches on the sun visor, which may or may not be caused by the dust. In general modular helmets are louder than others and this one is no exception to this rule. I installed a Cardo communication set with larger, HD speakers. The speakers fit fine, but the cutouts could have been just a little deeper. Conclusion: When I replace this
helmet I'll likely go with a modular one again, but

Boss 3000 Motorcycle Helmet
2007
I bought this helmet in 2007, because after 8 years it was time for a new helmet (it is always said that one should get a new one every 6 years). I was very pleased with the previous helmet (see below) and decided to go with the same manufacturer, UVEX, and a similar model. The main reason why I decide on this model again is the locking mechanism. I hate to fumble around under my chin with some kind of locking device, or even worth to try to fiddle it through a D-ring or similar. On a trip with sightseeing I probably put the helmet on and off 100 times a day. If the locking mechanism is too complicated then one is tempted to not lock it at all, but a not locked helmet doesn't provide any protection as it will just come off the head in an accident.The locking mechanism of UVEX (at least on the Boss model) has a red locking handle on the left side of the helmet and a strap that can not be pulled out of the helmet entirely, but so far to comfortably put the helmet on and off. The visor of the helmet is a double visor, which means it has, like the windows at home, two screens with air inbetween, which make it much more fog resistant then the after market anti-fog films or sprays. Conclusion: This is now my third helmet of this kind and I'm really happy with it. Unfortunately Uvex stopped making motorcycle helmets in 2012. |

UVEX Boss Motorcycle Helmet 1999 When I bought my first motorcycle in 1999 it was time to replace the moped helmet from 1986, since after so many years the plastic can get bridle. I liked the old helmet and therefore decided to get the same model again, which I haven't regretted. For details on the locking system and visor see the 2007 helmet above.
